With this set and the serials on Blu-Ray from VCI, this is a great time for Buck Jones fans. Recommended.
Great news, and great B westerns, but here in UK I’m still trying to track down the Jungle Jim and The Whistler sets. A few years back it was all so easy.
Though maybe l don’t need this so much, as l did buy 4 of the films on the original Sony Columbia DVDs.
Mike ,THE JUNGLE JIM MOVIE COLLECTION was released by Umbrella Entertainment in Australia.I have a copy and it is still available.
Over at Kino Lorber 2 Dean Martin westerns,ROUGH NIGHT IN JERICHO and TEXAS ACROSS THE RIVER are being released in early 2021 on BLU RAY.I’ve always liked Dino in westerns but these 2 never appealed to me,but they have their fans.
After 5 Cards Stud, I found these two disappointing.
I really like ROUGH NIGHT IN JERICHO and also
SHOWDOWN with Dean and Rock Hudson.
Like Mike, I also have 4 of these great Buck Jones westerns on the Sony releases (singly). But darned tempting nevertheless!
Day one purchase.
I’ve never seen any Buck Jones westerns that I can recall, and nothing on utube to watch to get an idea .I have the Hal Roach Streamliners Westerns vol 2 which I ordered from Classicflix and when they didn’t show up along with CASANOVA BROWN I asked if they had been sent and got an email saying they don’t ship overseas .Just watched 2 interviews with Hal Roach when he was 92 and 100.Quite a character. He asked for his cheque, opened it up and said if I had of known there would be this many people here,I would have asked for more.
Yeah, I have the Sony MOD’s on all these, but it doesn’t matter. I’m going to buy this as well. In fact, I already have it ordered. While I’m normally quite loathe to double-dip, when it comes to Buck Jones, I just can’t help myself. I love these films. Just wish a few more of Jones’ Columbia films could come out, looking all spruced up. Especially “Desert Vengeance” (1931) which is real corker of a western, and would really pop in high-definition, with its super-gritty desert ghost town backdrop and apocalyptic gunfight at the end.
DESERT VENGEANCE sounds great,
Louis King made some wonderful B Movies,
I love those films he later made for Paramount
PERSONS IN HIDING is sensational and pre figures
GUN CRAZY and BONNIE & CLYDE.
Another big announcement here. BELLS OF CORONADO (1950, William Witney) with Roy Rogers is now available to stream for rent or purchase in HD from iTunes and/or Amazon Prime. Also available is DAKOTA INCIDENT (1956) with Dale Robertson and DRAGOON WELLS MASSACE (1957) with Dennis O’Keefe. I’ve not seen the last two…any comments?
Dragoon Wells Massacre is terrific. One of my favorite 50s Westerns, and it gets a chapter in my book.
I think most of us will agree with your assessment; especially to see Trevor Bardette in an important role.
Thanks for the heads up about BELLS OF CORONADO, I just got it from iTunes and it looks amazing! Wish I could say the same about DRAGOON WELLS MASSACRE, the sample is pan & scan and littered with dirt and scratches. I have a lot of these Buck Jones westerns already, but this will be a great way to pick up the rest!
John Hall,a couple of nice films but I wouldn’t stream or rent if you paid me.DRAGOON WELLS MASSACRE I have on DVDr on a very clear print. This was one of the best B westerns of the 50s,and not only for the acting.
Concerning DRAGOON WELLS MASSACRE, I just noticed on both the iTunes & Amazon entries, it is a full screen print and is only available in standard definition. That’s a shame as I was looking forward to seeing it in scope. I may rent to at least watch it. I can happily say that BELLS OF CORONADO looks spectacular. The best I’ve ever seen it.
Such great news about this Buck Jones set. I ordered it last night! 🙂
Best wishes,
Laura
