James H. Griffith
(February 13, 1916 – September 17, 1993)
Here’s to one of my favorite character actors on his birthday. James Griffith is seen here with George Montgomery in William Castle’s Masterson Of Kansas (1954). Griffith is Doc Holliday.
Griffith is in a ton of stuff, and he’s always terrific. One of my favorites of his many parts is his yellow witness in the Dragnet feature (1954).
Thanks for the reminder, Paula!
Excellent Karp dans BULLWHIP (1958)
Yep! He’s ALWAYS good.
Excellent as outlaw “Pa Clellan” in an indifferent film, SEVEN GUNS TO MESA. (AA, 1958)
So right, he’s terrific in that one.
So, we’ve come around to James Griffith’s birthday again!
And STILL no national holiday!
Let’s not forget he played Pat Garrett in William Castle’s
THE LAW VS BILLY THE KID (sadly not on DVD or Blu) and Davy
Crockett in THE FIRST TEXAN.
Some good news from ESC Editions .I asked them if they were releasing more classic westerns. The answer was yes ,later this year .They’re not exactly sure when ,so stay tuned.
Toby, James Griffith(1916-1993) is a really fine character actor. He made every movie and tv show that he was in better, by being in it. I always like to see him make a scene stealing performance(in a good way) appearance.
I first remember seeing James Griffith, not as a villain, but as Cochise County, Arizona Deputy Sheriff Tom Ferguson in a favorite syndicated tv show, from my youngsterhood. The show was a contemporary Western THE SHERIFF OF COCHISE(1956-58) with John Bromfield as the sheriff.
Also, I got a kick out of Griffith’s performance as Abraham Murdock, a sheepman, in HEAVEN WITH A GUN(filmed 1968, released 1969). Along with Griffith’s performance, HEAVEN WITH A GUN is a well worth watching later Glenn Ford Western.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMES GRIFFITH!
It’s been forever since I’ve seen any episodes of Sheriff Of Cochise. Was just reading up on John Bromfield the other day.
I love anything where Griffith played Abe Lincoln, which he did several times, including a great color episode of The Lone Ranger.
Great as Orrie Summers the timid Deputy in “Rails into Laramie” – Good, Bad, Timid, Funny he could play them all
