A Blogathon For Randolph Scott
January 23 – 25, 2015
Randolph Scott is my favorite actor. Period. And this blogathon has been a goal of mine since I first figured out what a blogathon was.
To me, Scott’s the poster child for the 50s Western. His finest work during the decade ranks among the genre’s best — in spite of, or maybe even because of, tighter budgets and schedules than the films of stars like, say, John Wayne or Jimmy Stewart. And his lesser ones, they’re still worthwhile — even if only for his presence.
Randolph Scott was born on January 23, and that’s when we’ll saddle up.
Here’s how it works:
• Pick a Randolph Scott film or related topic. (It does not have to be a Western or from the 50s.)
• Write me at fiftieswesterns@gmail.com to let me know you want to ride along, what you want to write about, and when you plan to post it.
• Post your piece on your scheduled day, using the official Randolph Scott Blogathon badge (below) and link to the hub.
• Send me the link to your post so I can add it to the master list.
You are speaking to my heart.
The gentleman from Virginia is definitely my favorite westerner. Great to hear about your Blogathon.
What a great idea for a blogathon, Toby!
The trick now is “can I come up with something even remotely interesting to a bunch of folks who view Scott as their favourite western actor and therefore know everything already”. But I intend to sure try!
Love that top picture BTW (is that from “SEVEN MEN FROM NOW”??).
Yep, that’s Seven Men From Now.
Randy is the best. His great screen presence turned some mediocre screenplays into great B westerns. Anyone know if SUGARFOOT or CANADIAN PACIFIC will ever be remastered and released by Warner? I’ve given up waiting for FIGHTING MAN OF THE PLAINS.
Tom Settles ,FIGHTING MAN OF THE PLAINS is released on Simply Media in the UK
Color or B&W?
There is a Spanish release of CANADIAN PACIFIC by Suevia Premium. Audio is available in English and the Spanish subtitles can be erased. I received my copy through Galatea Shop who advertise on E Bay.
What’s the picture quality on it?
There is a Canadian Pacific DVD release by gozilla that they claim is digitally remastered (it is not), but it is still watchable. They also released Scott in both Cariboo Trail and Western Union (for the latter there a much better recent archives release, can’t recall Sony or Warner but a very nice print). But hey if you like Scott and are looking for a non-spanish release of Canadian Pacific or Cariboo Trail they are out there.
Toby , FIGHTING MAN OF THE PLAINS from Simply Media is in black and white and was released July 2013.
Randy played in a bunch of celebrity/charity golf events with Sam Snead, another one of my favorites. I wish I had some footage of those as well.
Oh, man, count me in for this one, Toby, if you got some room. Over the past decade, Randolph Scott has really risen in my estimation, the more films of his I’ve seen. I’ll ponder some possible titles and shoot you an email.
Whoa! I had a hard time choosing one movie to review, but it’ll be 1939 Frontier Marshall!
I’m Le from the blog Critica Retro 🙂
Good choice. I love that one.
James Stewart, John Wayne, Audie Murphy, great western stars, but my favourite is Randolph Scott. So many great westerns he has made watched them over and over again, have watched westerns from the 1940s . Seven men from now, with the lovely Gail Russell, love it.
