Excellent! I’m sure this will be as great as all your other endeavors, Toby. Best of luck with it and I’m looking forward to listening in when it’s fully up and running.
I thought this “trailer” was kinda lame, which is why I waited weeks to post it, but the response has been very encouraging. (I’ve even been asked if there will be Carbon Arc coffee cups!)
The guests I’ve got lined up should be a lot of fun, and the graphics for the YouTube version will look pretty cool.
Toby, good luck with the podcast .I will look forward to it.
Via Vision Entertainment have just released their June releases.WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE the complete series packed with bonus features including 5 featurettes 4 colourised episodes photo gallery of the original WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE Comic book and a feature length film- THE GREAT ST LOUIS BANK ROBBERY.A stack of Star studded Guest Stars also appear.
This will be on 12 DVDs and cost AU$119.95.
BAYWATCH Seasons 1-5 and STINGRAY -The Complete Series are also being released which may be of interest to our Hannibal 8 readers.
I just received HELL CANYON OUTLAWS today and as is the case with some German releases, there is no English audio.I will be returning it.Very disappointing.
HELL CANYON OUTLAWS……….Mr Banker/Cargo Records;Germany
A Review.
As Graham has already mentioned there is only German audio on the
high-def (Blu Ray) version.
Also the ratio is 4×3 not 1.85
Sadly there is often mis information on Blu Ray Disc.de and Amazon.de
The DVD does have an English soundtrack but the picture quality is very poor,
it looks as if it was sourced from an old 8mm print lots of blotches.
The quality on the Blu Ray version is miles better a tad pallid but thus far the
best I have seen for this film.
The package as extras includes an extended trailer for MURIETTA George
Sherman’s only Euro Western starring Jeffrey Hunter and Arthur Kennedy-
I should imagine Cargo Records forthcoming version will only have German
audio…who knows?
The packaging is very attractive, slipcased and the Blu Ray also includes
45 minutes of Spaghetti Western trailers mostly really obscure ones.
There is also a 4 p.p. insert which has the English Language version of the
poster and a couple of press ads for the films debut in German cinemas-
the support feature is noted as just “Laurel & Hardy”
If the high def version had an English soundtrack I would be be over the
moon with this release-I’m gonna keep it any way mainly for the lovely
packaging.
This is the problem with these unofficial German releases unlike say
Explosive Media releases which are always licenced from the studios direct.
Sadly, there is no market for programmer Westerns like HELL CANYON
OUTLAWS if say Joseph H Lewis had directed it might surface due to his
cult status. Even sadder that there is probably a pristine master lurking in
Paramount’s vaults.
Watching the high def version I was reminded of Paul Landres’ talent for
turning middling material into something really special.
I live in hope that Toby’s long awaited book might spark some kind of revival
in these obscure programmer Westerns.
Thanks for that update, John, though I hated reading it. That movie deserves so much better. Sounds like the Sinister Cinema DVD is still the best way to go for the English-speaking among our group.
BUCK AND THE PREACHER is coming to BLU RAY on August 23rd from Criterion .It will include behind the scenes footage with Harry Belafonte and Sidney Poitier and a new interview with Gina Belafonte daughter of Harry.Should be good.

Wow!!!!! I am really looking forward to this!
Don’t get too excited. I was gonna ask you to be a guest!
Toby, look forward to the new THE CARBON ARC podcast. You will do a good job. Also, I really like the name.
Thanks, Walter. Glad you like the name.
