Joan Weldon
(August 5, 1930 – February 11, 2021)
Joan Weldon, a lovely actress who appeared in some terrific pictures in the 50s, has passed away at 90.
She appeared with Randolph Scott in two Westerns, The Stranger Wore A Gun (1953) and Riding Shotgun (1954), both directed by Andre de Toth, along with The Command (1954) with Guy Madison, Gunsight Ridge (1957) with Joel McCrea and Day Of The Badman (1958) with Fred MacMurray. But the big one, the one she’s known for, is Gordon Douglas’s great giant ant picture Them! (1954).
She was quote a singer and did a lot of musical theater, including appearing with Forrest Tucker in The Music Man.
I feel a kinship with musical theatre gals, and I’m sorry to hear of the passing of an actress so much a part of what I enjoy in movies.
Toby, Joan Weldon was a talented and beautiful actress and I think her role as a scientist in THEM!(filmed 1953, released 1954) was ahead of the times. As the female lead, she got to do a lot more than stand around and scream. Too me, she illuminated intelligence and an alluring attractiveness.
Recently, we viewed THEM! and I think it is time to view Joan Weldon with Randolph Scott in RIDING SHOTGUN(filmed 1953, released 1954).
JOAN WELDON R.I.P.

I’m not real familar with this actress but I’m sure she was talented and she looks lovely .RIP Joan Weldon.Kino Lorber has announced VERA CRUZ with a brand new 2 K master .No release date or extras are shown. It was pointed out to them that the previous transfer was faulty because the operator was unfamiliar with the process and some parts were damaged.Kino said it’s good to announce this early because they were unaware of these problems and now they can try to correct them.
VERA CRUZ update. When you don’t have a Facebook account, you can only half access the page.Comments were playing up.
Anyway, one commentator says he was present when the current master was telecined back in 1989.The frustrated operator didn’t know what Superscope was and a few feet of footage was damaged during the transfer and dupe footage was used for a brief scene.Other comments have bought up some issues with the previous transfer and one comment was happy with the previous transfer. We shall see what we shall see when it eventually gets released and reviewed.
Some body has offered Shout Factory a 15 min footage extras for KING KONG 1976 for their upcoming release, but they never got back to him.Another person told him the who to contact who was doing the extras so hopefully Shout will now consider what he has to offer.
I recently watched a RS double bill – a same side DVD of Thunder Across the Plains & Riding Shotgun. Joan Weldon was one of the few townspeople supporting Randy. I love Wayne Morris in the latter film as well.
Lyson, I’m a Wayne Morris fan, also. I liked him and Rod Cameron in STAGE TO TUCSON(1950). A good entertaining Western.
Walter, I am going to watch The Desperado for the first time ever – this weekend! Also love Stage to Tucson as I’m a Rod Cameron fan.
Lyson, THE DESPERADO(1954) is a good Western Movie, which is an Allied Artists release. Allied Artists released some good Westerns in the 1950’s. This movie has a really good cast. I think that you will like it. James Lydon, who plays Tom Cameron, is still with us. Lydon is 97 years young.
