Happy Birthday! Tim Holt a good actor whose post-World War II Western movies, that he made for RKO, are very good westerns with solid scripts, great photography, and beautiful locations. In the directors chair of many of these Holt movies was Lesley Selander.
Yes, those RKO westerns are indeed a great joy! Great to celebrate Tim Holt. Thank you, Toby.
Yes, “joy” is the exact word for what Tim brings into our lives.
It’s funny, when I typed that up the other day, I thought that “joy” was maybe a bit overwrought. But that’s the thing everyone’s agreeing with!
Sorry Tim, I underestimated you. Or maybe I figured my love of those movies was over the top, and if it is, I’m not alone!
Toby, I’d like to join Paddy Lee, Jerry and you in saying that watching a Tim Holt Western is indeed a “Joy.”
I like THE ARIZONA RANGER(filmed 1947, released 1948). A lot is packed into 64 minutes. We get to see the reel and real life father-son combination of Rawhide Morgan(Jack Holt) and Bob Morgan(Tim Holt). The story isn’t really your average Western programmer, so that makes it cut above most. We owe that to veteran Western screenwriter Norman Houston. John Rawlins directed and did a good job.
Tim was a good actor and he did most of his own stunts and the fight scenes were saved for the last day of shooting in case of any injuries. Tim suffered several broken bones and he realistically wore gloves to help protect his hands. He and Quirt Butler(Steve Brodie) had quite a tussle in this movie.
I last saw THE ARIZONA RANGER on Turner Classic Movies and like all Tim Holt movies, it is well worth watching.
