Directed by Don Siegel
Starring John Wayne, Lauren Bacall, Ron Howard, James Stewart, Richard Boone, Hugh O’Brian, Harry Morgan, John Carradine, Sheree North, Scatman Crothers
Two of my biggest movie heroes, John Wayne and Don Siegel, only worked together once, on The Shootist (1976). It turned out to be Duke’s last film, and it gave him the perfect way to go out — which he was obviously aware of.
The Shootist is screening at The Autry Museum Of The American West as part of their What Is A Western? film series.

I encourage you to go if you can get there. It’s a wonderful movie, and seeing it on the big screen would be quite a treat in this day and age.
And in this era of stupid-looking facial hair, doesn’t Wayne look cool?
“Stupid looking facial hair”….I resemble that remark 🙂
Love that Duke,Don,Clint pic!
Sadly Clint is getting the critical backlash now that The Duke suffered from
in the late 60’s early 70’s.
The p.c. “Snowflake Generation” is all over Clint’s latest RICHARD JEWELL
which sounds fantastic I might add.
At least the critics that matter have not been sidetracked by “Political” issues
and seen the movie for what it is,a darn fine one as far as I can gather.
I see RICHARD JEWELL has been totally ignored by The Golden Globes,
of which most of the nominations I would walk a country mile to avoid.
Clint’s the only guy these days that could entice me back to the cinema-
I thought THE MULE was fantastic underrated by the media but not the public.
Great classic western. What a swansong!!
That would have to be a rare pic with Wayne,Eastwood and Siegel together .Jerry ,did you recover from the jet lag ok?
Fine thanks, Graham. There was very little jet lag actually, probably the result of the less-pressurised construction of the new planes for the single destination flight (i.e no changeover).
CIMARRON 1960 with Glenn Ford is coming to BLU RAY from WB Archive. No release date is given.
Marie Windsor is also in THE SHOOTIST. Don’t forget about MW !!
Where in The Shootist does Marie Windsor appear?
When the Gods roamed the Earth I’ve long wished that John Wayne, Charles Bronson and Clint Eastwood could have made a movie together. Just one would have been so nice.
