Directed by Sidney Salkow
Starring George Montgomery, Ann Robinson, Steve Brodie, Bobby Clark, Frank Ferguson, Denver Pyle, Don “Red” Barry, Roy Barcroft
Gun Duel In Durango (1957) is a solid little George Montgomery picture. It’s got a great cast and igoes down easy. Wish they’d 47,000 more movies just like it back in the late 50s.
It’s coming to Blu-Ray in Germany. Hope it’s Region Free — this is a good one.
A George Montgomery western is always good to watch, but I wish they’d release some of his unreleased ones on DVD and there’s still a couple out there.
I agree, but issues of rights and materials and/or transfers get in the way on some of these things. I’m always so blown away to see these smaller, late-50s Westerns on Blu-Ray in their original widescreen setup — they’re stunning sometimes.
Toby ,Yes unfortunately these things can hold up a release.I E SUBMARINE COMMAND starring William Holden is held up with music rights owned by the composer’s family .I think sometimes they ask for a fortune and the studios are unwilling to pay.
It seems like every time I turn around these days I’m seeing Steve Brodie. I don’t mind in the least.
This is indeed a solid little movie, no world beater but enjoyable in that distinctive Salkow style. It still both surprises and pleases me to see movies of this kind treated to a Blu-ray release.
Gary at DVD Beaver normally avoids “bootlegs” or unofficial releases.
He has reviewed favorably Endless Classics releases of CONQUEST OF
SPACE and ATLANTIS,THE LOST CONTINENT films that fans
have been wanting in high-def for ages.
This is a most odd title for this mysterious outfit and according to Blu-Ray
Disc.de it will be 4×3-surely a 1957 film should be at least in 1.85.
As far as i can gather this is an unofficial release-possibly downloaded
from a European high-def TV station;there is certainly going to be loads
more of that in future especially with the majors reluctance (especially
Paramount) to release titles that fans are longing for in high def.
Lots of us long for LAST TRAIN TO GUN HILL on Blu Ray surely a top seller,
I would have thought.
I guess it’s only a matter of time before Hollywood Scrapheap start
offering Blu Ray editions especially with the increase of high-def TV stations
Worldwide and the ability to download rare films in pristine high def.
One would think the majors would try to stay one step ahead of the game
and beat the unofficial outfits at their own game-I’m surprised Warners
have not offered ATLANTIS,THE LOST CONTINENT by now especially
considering the huge demand for this kind of fare.
ATLC is arguably George Pal’s worst film but having said that it’s made
for the high-def treatment.
David Rayner-was this not,in the UK double billed with MORGAN THE
PIRATE-one hellava double bill.
The dreaded Paramount cannot even be bothered to officially release
CONQUEST OF SPACE,WAR OF THE WORLDS and WHEN WORLDS
COLLIDE despite the massive demand for these titles on Blu Ray.

About two years I asked Warners regarding THE SAVAGE GUNS and
they said it was in the process of being restored and re mastered…I’ve
heard nothing since despite several requests on their Facebook page
which they have chosen to ignore.
John K,I put in another request for THE SAVAGE GUNS ,so here’s hoping they give a positive reply.Don Taylor wasn’t a very big actor but he was one of my favourites .His ambition was to be a director and 2 of his films I enjoyed were RIDE THE WILD SURF and THE FINAL COUNTDOWN.He was a big friend of William Holden .
John K WB Archive says THE SAVAGE GUNS needs to be remastered and once that’s achieved they can release it .Read their reply on Facebook .
I have the UK DVD from 101 Films. It’s a good looking 4 x 3 print, and definitely not pan and scan.
I read a number of months back on Home Theatre Forum, that some dodgy Euro companies use professional DVD upscalers to try to get near blu ray quality with their discs. So I guess we must be careful, or wait for an honest review.
Warner Archive is at the moment having a 4 for $44 sale on even their most recent releases.
These sales don’t come around as often from them as they once did, so I thought I’d mention it.
Yes, john k, the double bill of ATLANTIS THE LOST CONTINENT and MORGAN THE PIRATE was released on the Essoldo circuit in Great Britain in December, 1961.
Wow! What a terrific double bill of Atlantis The Lost Continent and Morgan The Pirate!

That’s great that THE SAVAGE GUNS is still happening.
Don Taylor was a very likable actor and had a very happy
35 year marriage to the lovely Hazel Court.
I’m a big Richard Basehart fan and like Taylor not really
a Western actor but it’s good to see them together in
THE SAVAGE GUNS.
Back to George Montgomery and Sidney Salkow the screengrabs
for Salkow’s THE PATHFINDER are up on http://www.dvdclassik.com
They look great, far better than the crappy “off air” copies that have
been floating ’round.
The French critics only give the film half a star-could that be because
the French are the bad guys this time ’round ( sorry Chip if you are out there)
Of course being the dreaded Sidonis THE PATHFINDER with have horrible
“forced” subtitles. This is nothing but bloody mindedness film companies
often insist on region codes but NOT forced subs.
Hopefully Hollywood Scrapheap will de-subtitle the Sidonis release
and offer it to us all-serve Sidonis right.
It seems, these days that the major studios have their hands full with
cats ripping off the likes of Wonder Woman,Justice League and Thor
to even worry about Westerns well over 60 years.
John mentions Hollywood Scrapheap and I have just seen that they have released “CORONER CREEK” ,one of Randy Scott’s classic westerns. As far as I know, this great western is not available to U.S. buyers on DVD.
I would love to see a DVD release of George Montgomery’s FORT TI (Columbia, 1953). It’s long overdue for a proper DVD release. THE SAVAGE GUNS went out on release in Great Britain in late 1962 as the lower half of an MGM double bill with the Steve Reeves version of THE THIEF OF BAGDAD.
Jerry,CORONER CREEK was available on RANDOLPH SCOTT WESTERNS COLLECTION on TCM which has now been deleted but is still available on an Italian DVD.Don Taylor wasn’t really a western actor but the two he was in were good ,the other one being AMBUSH with Robert Taylor.
Ah yes, the TCM Collection. I had forgotten that one, Graham. Wasn’t around too long, was it? Thanks for the reminder.
Why was it deleted? I have a copy of that collection, thank goodness. I also have Coroner Creek on a disc recorded from Encore Western.
