Directed by Ray Nazarro
Starring George Montgomery, Audrey Long, Carl Benton Reid, Eugene Iglesias, Joe Sawyer, Douglas Kennedy, Hugh Sanders, George Chesebro, Robert J. Wilke
This has happened a time or two before — just when you think Sony’s Columbia Classics series has headed to the happy hunting grounds, they announce something else. This time, that something else is Ray Nazarro’s Indian Uprising (1952), and it’s due next week.
It’s a cavalry picture, shot at Corriganville, Bronson Canyon and the Iverson Ranch in Super Cinecolor by Ellis Carter. It’s always great to add a little Montgomery or Nazarro to our DVD shelves, and this is a pretty good one.
Yes! but even Jerry “great news” Entract won’t be shelling out
$20 for this. 🙂
Have you seen the graphics BTW they could not be worse.
I thought INDIAN UPRISING was shot in Sedona,Arizona-gotta check this
out. There is some nifty artwork knocking around for INDIAN UPRISING
surely Sony could have done far,far better-but at least the transfer will be
stellar.
Yep, there was some location stuff in Sedona, along with all our favorite ranches.
And yes, the artwork’s awful — fives minutes on Google would’ve turned up something a thousand times better.
The point I’m making is the amount they are charging for these things
at least they could have given us decent graphics.
I wish Mill Creek could get a whole bunch of these sort of films and release
them at an affordable price-$20 for a double bill with nice graphics would
at least be a start. Remember those not too far distant days when Sony gave
us a dozen of these sort of films on the first Tuesday of each month.
I think they’ve figured out that a certain number of people will buy these things regardless, and since it’s not gonna turn in the racks at Walmart of Best Buy, it doesn’t need much in the way of curb appeal.
Mill Creek is a great place for movies like this to end up, and I buy their ganged-up releases all the time — particularly the Columbia stuff. You can’t beat em.
Well, Mill Creek has announced a 10 movie DURANGO KID collection.
Maybe Mill Creek can get their hands on Randolph Scott’s ‘The Bounty Hunter’ and we Randolph Scott fans can finally get this as a DVD instead of having to wait for TCM to show it!
That one’s waiting for Warner Bros. and Warner Archive to do something with it. And from what I understand, the 3-D material is in good shape.
I am still waiting for WB Archive to release SUGARFOOT with Randolph Scott, but I guess they’ll get to it eventually .It’s nice to see another George Montgomery western get a DVD release and if Mill Creek still have a deal with Sony ,I’d like to see another 7 WESTERN SHOWDOWN COLLECTION .I’m not really a fan of Smiley Burnette ,but I’m happy for the Durango Kid fans that this collection has been released .
I think there’s some rights trouble with the story on Sugarfoot.
I’m really wanting Montgomery’s Texas Rangers, which was directed by the Phil Karlson.
Mill Creek does indeed have an arrangement with Sony still in place. The Durango Kids are Columbia/Sony pictures — wp.me/pEScW-40M. I’d love to see more of Columbia’s 50s Westerns make their way to DVD through Mill Creek. There are a ton of them still MIA.
I put in a request to WB Archive for SUGARFOOT and THE BOUNTY HUNTER and their answer was “nothing to announce at the present time”.I do have a Spanish copy of THE BOUNTY HUNTER on Impulso Records and it’s a pretty decent copy.
Thanks for the update. By the way, I truly enjoy your blog. As a long-time Western movie fan, it is a pleasure to be able to reach out to others who are still enamored of the golden age of Westerns!
Thanks a bunch. Riding herd over this thing is a real joy.
Here’s the mundane so-called artwork Columbia has chosen for this new release:
Here is a COLOR movie shown as b/w on the DVD, an outrage. By the way, it has always bothered me when b/w movies are portrayed in beautiful bright color on their commercial DVD covers. I would like these to be colorized if they’re going to be advertised as being in beautiful big bright color. It used to disappoint me when buying one of these color cover portrayals and then discovering the movie is dull b/w.
I agree with all comments above! Yes we need BOUNTY HUNTER and SUGARFOOT to be remastered and released! Great copies of both these movies exist. Why not get it done, Warner? Yes TEXAS RANGERS is a great Montgomery movie (probably his best) that should have been remastered and released a long time ago! I have broadcast copies of all these movies but would gladly replace them with remastered versions. I saw INDIAN UPRISING a few years ago on Encore and its pretty decent. A color cover would definitely help it sell better, wonder why they didn’t think of that?
