Shout Factory! has announced a set of four middle-budget United Artists Westerns from the 50s — coming May 14 for around $10. They call it Movies 4 You: Western Classics.
The Lone Gun (1954) was directed by Ray Nazarro and stars George Montgomery, Dorothy Malone, Frank Faylen, Neville Brand, Skip Homeier and Robert J. Wilke. It’s in color.
Ride Out For Revenge (1957) stars Rory Calhoun, Gloria Grahame, Lloyd Bridges and Vince Edwards. It was directed by Bernard Gerard and shot by the great Floyd Crosby.
Gunsight Ridge (1957) stars Joel McCrea, Mark Stevens, Joan Weldon, Slim Pickens and L.Q. Jones. It was directed by Francis D. Lyon. (As ridiculous as some of these titles seem, there is a Gunsight, Texas. My great-great grandparents lived there at one point. Not sure if it has a ridge.)
Gun Belt (1953) puts George Montgomery, Tab Hunter, Helen Westcott, John Dehner and Jack Elam in the capable hands of Ray Nazarro. In Technicolor.
Haven’t seen any aspect ratio information on these yet.
Don’t know about y’all, but I’ll buy packages like this, at these prices, as long as they can scrape up 50s Westerns to put in ‘em.
A big thanks to Mr. Richard Vincent for the heads-up.

That’s a wonderful & unexpected piece of news. I’d probably buy as many of these as they care to put out.
Just ordered the box on Amazon. Postage to UK is almost as much as the dvd cost!
Many thanks .
Excellent news, I’m all over this release. Way to go, Shout Factory. Thanks for the heads-up, Toby!
On Amazon they show this as one disc. Four features on one disc? Can’t be. Yet for the price, how can it be a multi disc set? Anyone have any info on this? I can’t locate this item on SHOUT! FACTORY’s site to verify anything.
It can work. Probably two per side.
Not sure why it’s not on their site while Amazon has it listed.
I am hoping that the Amazon site information is totally wrong.
Compressing 4 full length westerns onto one DVD would result in disappointing picture quality.
Shout Factory also have on sale at the same $9.99 price, “4 action packed movies” on 2 DVDs, so I’m sure the western set will be the same.
Amazon DVD information isn’t always reliable, especially on pre orders.
A double sided disc, with two movies per side, shouldn’t cause any serious compression problems. Still, I’m not crazy about double sided discs for other reasons. I’d be happier with two DVD-9s. Mind you, I’m buying it anyway.
I’m hoping it’s 2 movies per single-sided disc, as a 2-disc set. But no matter how it’s released, it’s in my shopping cart awaiting my next order.
I’ve learned that all four pictures will be presented full-frame, not windescreen.
According to IMDB, only THE LONE GUN was widescreen from among these four titles and then just barely—at 1.66: 1.
Universal Studios Home Video has a collection due out in March.
