When I think of hard work in a 50s Western, the stump-clearing scene in Shane (1953) comes to mind.
So here’s Alan Ladd, Van Heflin — and that stump. Have a nice Labor Day.
And by the way, today is Alan Ladd’s birthday.

He was great and was one of the top western stars in Hollywood. Happy Holiday.
One of the great scenes that make SHANE not only my favourite American western, but one of my all time favourite films.
Golden.
I see from amazon.com that the 20th Century-Fox Cinema Archives label have recently released a DVD (or maybe a DVD-R) of the Alan Ladd CinemaScope Western “ONE FOOT IN HELL” (1960), with a rather plain black and white poster cover. However, there’s no mention on amazon whether this is a 2.35:1 or pan and scan transfer.
