Barbara Stanwyck
July 16, 1907 – January 20, 1990
If there was a Queen of 50s Westerns, it’d be Miss Barbara Stanwyck. Just look at the titles: The Furies (1950), The Moonlighter (1953), Cattle Queen Of Montana (1954), The Violent Men (1955), The Maverick Queen (1956), Trooper Hook (1957) and Forty Guns (1957).
Of making Westerns, she said, “Oh, I love to do them. I just love to do them.”

“The Barbara Stanwyck Show” on dvd is a treat. As host she asked the audience to write in about their favorite episodes and what they would like to see most often. I imagine Barbara saying to herself “Choose the westerns. Choose the westerns.”
As much as she loved doing them is how much I love seeing her in them.
(Love seeing her in any other kind of movie too.)
I LOVE Barbara Stanwyck and I LOVE westerns. Kinda works out well doesn’t it? “Forty Guns” will always be my favorite, but I would watch any of them at any time. I have never seen “The Barbara Stanwyck Show” but I think it might be time to remedy that. Thanks for the post and for the Barbara Stanwyck love.
She was one tough lady in “40 Guns”, though I may be confusing it with “The Furies”, all I know is they are both great. I’ve never seen Barbara in a bad Western. I like esp. the one she and President Reagan made, “Cattle Queen of Montanna”! It’s in color too!
