Even if Gene Autry did sing “Here Comes Peter Cottontail” in Hills Of Utah (1951), there’s not a lot of Easter to be found in 50s Westerns.
But with The Bravados (1958) coming up this week (Gregory Peck’s birthday was the 5th), I was reminded of the church scene towards the end. That’ll have to do. What a movie!

Joe De Rita as the hangman!
I loved that.
That church scene at the end is great. And so is the movie. It wouldn’t be an inappropriate movie at all to watch on Easter.
Christianity was originally meant to be about forgiveness and self-forgiveness–a lot of people forget that these days.
And with that I will discreetly end my Easter sermonizing and just wish everyone a Happy Easter.
Lovely post and comments, this one is in my “to see” stack.
Happy Easter and best wishes,
Laura
Joe De Rita and Randolph Scott were good friends. During WW II, they toured together together performing for the troops.
I have a recording of Roy Rogers singing “Here COmes Peter Cottontail”, I didn’t know Gene sang it too.
