Here’s another one of those things that makes me wish I could head to California.
As part of a celebration of Universal’s 100th anniversary, UCLA is presenting a well-thought-out series of screenings in May and June.
Only one night of Westerns is scheduled, but it’s a good one. On June 17, they’ll run Anthony Mann’s Winchester ’73 (1950) and Clint Eastwood’s High Plains Drifter (1973) in the Billy Wilder Theater.

That’s one hell of a line-up! Thanks for the heads-up, Toby.
Is it my imagination, or does Stewart in the first photo, top left look like Forrest Tucker?
I am somewhat of a firearms buff and, in case there are fans who do not know it, Winchester really did make One-of-One-Hundred and One-of-One-Thousand Models. The Winchester 73 was a great rifle with a great action although it was a bit weak, the action I mean. It first came out in caliber .44-40 (.44 caliber bullet and 40 grains of black powder for propellant) and one could buy a Colt made six-gun that fired the same caliber so a person only had to carry one size ammo for a handgun and rifle. Nice REPLICAS of the ’73 can be bought today for around a $1000 in new condition.
