Hoping and praying describes it perfectly.
Here’s how much I think of this movie. I saw an original 35 Technicolor print (from a private collector) that UCLA showed last year, so not pining to see it at the moment. And yet it’s still one of the Westerns I’ve most hoped would be on DVD. And this is a happy surprise–someone had said sometime ago that there was some music rights issue that might prohibit its release, so it looks like that person was wrong and I’m sure will be glad to know it.
If someone asked me “What would an ideal Western be?” I would be very tempted to name this–and for all kinds of reasons.
I know “The Wonderful Country” has played on MGM HD, so here’s hoping the transfer is better than decent.
In other news: “The Jayhawkers” is coming to Blu-ray (yes, Blu-ray) from Olive Films: http://www.classicflix.com/jayhawkers-bluray-p-12250.html
Never seen it, but A.I. Bezzerides (“Kiss Me Deadly”, “They Drive by Night”) is one of the writers and Leo Gordon and Henry Silva are in it (along with jeff Chandler and Fess Parker) so it must be good.
Excellent movie. I already have a copy of this but I’m glad it’s more readily available now for those in the States.
Great! Now, where’s Blood on the Moon?
