My wife and I are big fans of Mid-Century architecture, furniture, etc. (Ever seen Gary Cooper’s house?)
Today, Jennifer was reading up on Richard Neutra and this came up. It’s a rendering of a home designed for Howard Hawks, but never built.
Among lots of other incredible homes and buildings, Neutra designed the Cyclorama in Gettysburg. Oh, prints are available of the Hawks house.

Brilliant. Did they ever pick a site, I wonder?
Outside Old Tucson would’ve been cool.
I love this stuff. Have you seen any of the Neutra, Schindler, Wright houses in L.A.? They’re just sort of lying around in the middle of everything else, which is one reason why I love that city.
I’ve seen Wright’s Ennis House (AKA The House On Haunted Hill). My sister was the stylist for a catalog shoot in it.
Other than that, it’s been mostly through books and websites. I want to tour those Eichler neighborhoods someday.
Much of the cool modern stuff around Raleigh (designed by the cats at NC State) is starting to face Johnny Bulldozer. It’s sad.
That sucks. And of course I never paid any attention to it when I lived there.
Didn’t the Ennis House just get bought or rescued from oblivion itself recently? I also want to take the funicular up to the Chemosphere house before I die….
There’s also a film called Schindler’s Houses, which is nothing but long meditative shots of, yes, Schindler houses. I keep meaning to rent it one of these days. I should also send you Los Angeles Plays Itself, if you’ve never seen it.
See, now i would have used this as an example of why i do not like mid century architecture. lol
