Let’s all try not to panic or anything, but it looks like Rio Bravo (1959) is out of print on Blu-ray.
The disc didn’t seem to knock anybody out — grain was a common complaint — and I haven’t heard if a new edition is in the works. Others said it didn’t look as good as The Searchers (1956) — but to be honest, few Blu-rays do.
Anybody know what’s going on? Don’t know about you, but I don’t like the idea of living in a world where Rio Bravo is unavailable.

HD DVD is good enough for me. Available now at Amazon for $6.21.
As long as my regular DVD doesn’t poop out on me I’m happy. I haven’t switched to BluRay, I’m hoping I won’t have to. Really, I have never had a problem with my regular DVD picture, it looks bright and extremely sharp to me. How much sharper than sharp can you get? There was a big improvement over VHS when DVDs came out, but I don’t see any need for an improvement on a product that is already perfect. Of course, not having to buy everything all over again is another bonus. I got caught in this trap before, several times, beta, VHS, then laser disc. I still have my laser discs of Rio Bravo and several other Duke classics. Do they do me any good now? Nope. The DVD has replaced them.
I am like Johnny Guitar….I am happy with my straight DVD. Plus, I record stuff on dvd so if I have a Blu-Ray hooked up it is only a player, not a recorder and I am not sophisticated enough with electronics to have both. DVD was such a big jump from VHS I am content.
