Ben Johnson and Mamie Van Doren.

Came across this the other day. Here’s Ben Johnson and Mamie Van Doren. I think Ben was a technical adviser on Born Reckless (1958), a rodeo picture.

I do believe that’s one of my scans. You can find it on my Ben Johnson website.

The question is… what year was it taken? Ben Johnson and Mamie Van Doren were both on the RKO lot in 1948 — he was filming Mighty Joe Young and she was Howard Hughes’ latest discovery/girlfriend/starlet, and she posed for pictures with a lot of RKO’s male stars. However, Born Reckless (1958) was directed by Howard Koch and produced by Aubrey Schenck, for whom Ben Johnson had worked on several pictures, and from what I’ve read, he did do the technical advising for the rodeo scenes in the movie.

Unfortunately Born Reckless is not out on DVD and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it shows up soon as a Warner Archive disc.
