Happened upon this somewhere the other day — Marie Windsor in Republic’s Hellfire (1949).
I love that film — one of my favorite Westerns — and this still is too cool to keep to myself.
Love Marie Windsor!! Got to meet her at a Western Film Fair in Charlotte. She and Beverly Garland are my two all-time favorite movie “dames.” And I mean that as a total compliment.
Great Marie! This has been one of the movies that influenced most my life, seen as a child of 7 more or less, and two other times (in black and white, as was shown in Italy). So keen on this charachter that I used Doll Brown as a nick on forums.
I never saw it again for years, till I bought the republic vhs, all in english without subtitles so I can’t understand everything.
The writing at the beginning of the movie, printed from the movie, is on my home wall:
“Man with his misdeeds kindles his own hellfire!”
Just great words.
And the beginning of the movie (I have uploaded the titles on Youtube) is impressive, the preacher seems to be singing his first words, more than speaking, accompained by music harmonies in sacred style :
Great movie, here is a still I like very much I bought on ebay:

It is curious that in Italy it has been titled “Inferno di fuoco” = “Hell of fire”, instead than “The flames of hell” which I think is the original meaning.
I look forward a dvd or blue ray release of this masterpiece.
Thanks for the beautiful portrait!
I ALWAYS LOVED MARIE WINDSOR, SINCE I WAS A KID SEEING HER IN
DAKOTA LIL. I AM JUST SORRY THAT I HAVE NOT SEEN THIS WEBSITE
SOONER.
Marie Windsor was great in this movie. The story told a very moral story but did not preach, well written , good actiong, and direction.
