I’ve been eagerly awaiting the word on this release — a French edition of Gunman’s Walk (1958) from Sidonis.
There was some worry about burned-in French subtitles (they’re removable) and whether or not it’d be anamorphic (it is). Colin from Riding The High Country pointed me toward the DVD Beaver review. Judging from their remarks and the screen grabs (that’s one above), this should be a must — that is, until Columbia comes through in the UK or US.

I’ve gone ahead and ordered this and it’s already shipped, so I’ll get back as soon as I’ve received it and confirm whether or not the subs pose any problem.
Terrific. Thanks as always.
Attention Colin:
Do you know if other recent Sidonis releases have
burned-in subs?
I am very interested in 7th Cavalry and The Guns Of Fort
Petticoat.
Also the forthcoming release of Column South
As always; thank you very much.
Hi John,
I don’t know, but if GW turns out OK I’m going to give a few of those others a shot.
You can view here a review from Sidonis’ edition of The Guns of Fort Petticoat:

P.D: Sorry for my english. I’m from Spain. Your blog is wonderful.
I posted this on the HTF, disappointing but here it is:
OK, I’ve had a chance to give the French disc of Gunman’s Walk the once over. I’m sorry to say the Beaver’s review is somewhat misleading on the subs issue. When inserted the disc offers the option of playing either a French dub or the original version with subs. Often this just means that the subs can be disabled via the remote. Not in this case though, and I tried it out on two different machines. If played through a computer, the subs can be disabled. Generally, this means that certain stand-alone machines will be able to disable the subs – but others won’t. A pity as the transfer itself is very nice.
Thanks for clarifying that, Colin.
Especially since you reported in before I bought one. Personally, I don’t like watching movies on my computer.
