Looks like it’s in great shape–I wonder what it goes for finally. You know Rogers is going to be one of the featured figures in TCM’s next annual event in Hollywood.
Didn’t know about Roy and TCM. He certainly deserves the attention.
I’m a big fan of the Witney pictures — they’re every bit as good as those RKO Tim Holts. (Speaking of Rogers and Witney, one of the joys of the holidays is watching Trail Of Robin Hood with my daughter.)
When it comes to Roy, it takes a lot of willpower to keep from completely going off the deep end and starting a collection of the toys and memorabilia and stuff — especially those cap pistols and Marx playsets!
If I was a rich eccentric a la Howard Hughes, that’d be my particular OCD thing. And this Trigger would be a good place to start.
I’m guessing but I would think that the Roy Rogers merchandising is probably as good or better than any other Western figure. I looked at the ebay listing for the Trigger item and It’s been retooled and painted, and probably looks as good and works as well as it ever did, plus it plays Back In The Saddle. I wonder if the illustration on the front is altogether new or just a repainted version of the original. Anyway $8500 is a little dear, but if I was rich I’d buy it and stick it out in front of the True West offices. I also wish I could afford a complete set of all the Til Goodan Western kitchenware. That stuff is beautiful.

The Hoppy stuff is cool — there’s a beautiful bicycle — but Roy’s my favorite. Those commemorative BB guns they did (fairly recently) are gorgeous.
These days, a Son Of Paleface lobby card hangs in my office, along with a Benton card for North Of The Great Divide.
