Red Sundown (1956) is a Universal-International Western starring Rory Calhoun, Martha Hyer and Dean Jagger. It was directed by Jack Arnold under the working title Decision At Durango. (Another one of those Universals with the “Print by Technicolor.”)
Came across some behind-the-scenes photo of the sheriff’s office set. Note the light and crew member on the right.
Now look at this still from the finished film, where the wall has been added behind Dean Jagger — or probably more likely, removed in the shot above.

Red Sundown is one of the films the UK company
Hollywood Classics have the Worldwide (US excluded)
rights to;someone please put out this great Universal
Western on DVD. Grant Williams (Incredible Shrinking
Man) is chilling as an incredibly nasty gunslinger.
As in the earlier film Powder River (Fox 1953)
Calhoun plays a gunman who has to face a man that
he knows is much faster than himself.
I recently purchased the Hollywood Classics/Bounty version
of “Pirates Of Monterey.” Not so much a Western more a
costume romance and the storyline is pretty thin stuff.
But what a handsome looking film and what about those
incredible matte comps from Universals ultra talented art
department. From the mid to late Forties Universal released
loads of colour Westerns usually starring Yvonne de Carlo
(Frontier Gal,River Lady,Calamity Jane & Sam Bass, Black
Bart and so on.)I am starting to appreciate Rod Cameron
more and more its a pity only a couple of his films has
made it to DVD.
